The Third Grade recently has been discussing dynamics or the difference between loud and soft. My favorite song that shows the difference between the two is the "Habanera" from Carmen. The YouTube version below is probably my absolute favorite and I think some of the classes at JFK as well. Hi to Mrs. DiCecco's class who is chatting while I type this. Thank you to the students who are listening and doing the right thing. ;)
I have finally updated the favorites section. Now you will be able to find links to sites on instruments, composers and other musical information that I have used in class. I also put in some note reading games that may be of use to some of the 5th grade band students. Remember 5th graders, if you ever need help, just ask.
I think I have been been driving my 3rd graders crazy with this poem. We've said it for about 2 weeks now! We practiced it and then tried it with some body percussion and then tried it again on the xylophones. What my class doesn't know... that is reading this as I type... is that we are going to do it AGAIN today. I will also assessing them today on them on their rhythms for it. :) Good luck 3rd graders!
EDIT... The class did awesome... The song was called Juke Box... NOT Juice box.....5th graders!
The song we did our beat activity this week is off of a CD called "Putumayo Presents: Italian Cafe" I get a ton of my music from the Putumayo series of world music. This has to be one of my favorite CDs. If you are ever looking for decent world music, Putumayo is a great place to start. I bought it off of Amazon. Third Grade also used it this week as well. |
